We visited London yesterday. Walking towards Oxford Street we caught sight of this iconic building - the Post Office Tower. It was officially opened in 1965. It was opened to the public in 1966, and people could visit the communications equipment, viewing galleries and a rotating restaurant on the 34th floor. A bomb exploded in the roof of the men's toilets at the Top of the Tower in 1971, and the restaurant was closed to the public. Until the 1990's the building was officially a secret and did not appear on official maps. It is still in use as the site of a major communications hub.
I first went to London as a child a year or too after that bomb and was so disappointed to find that the post office tower was closed, I'd set my heart on going up it! Great photo or it with such a lovely blue sky.
I had a meal at that restaurant - amazing views from the top. I now visit the area once a week as I help out at my daughter's school which is within spitting distance of it. She can also see it from her home in Islington! How good to see it photographed by you.
