Tunnel Boring Machine by busylady

Tunnel Boring Machine

Or should that be the Boring Tunnel Machine? No seriously this is Sophia - the tunnel boring machine which is about to start boring a tunnel from Plumstead towards Canary Wharf. It will form part of the new Cross Rail Scheme which will connect the rail services from the east side of London to the west side. At present it is the largest engineering project in Europe. The machine was named after Sophia, the wife of Marc Brunel who dug the world's first underwater in London. Now as you can imagine this is not really my thing, but as Peter had the chance to view the this part of the project as it was about to get started, I thought I'd be nice to him and post one of his pictures. Thank you all for your recent comments and fav's all very much appreciated.
Gosh this is very interesting even if it is not your thing! Nice composition Peter

Well it's fascinating. Have you seen the model in the London Transport museum showing how the Tube was dug? They'd have loved one of these...

Hmm very interesting I do like a bit of large scale engineering. Although its cited as one of the reasons why Leeds is the largest city in Europe with no rapid transit system!
