This area of London not far from Covent Garden was laid out by Thomas Neale in the early 1690's. It was laid out in a series of triangles to maximise the number of houses as rentals were then charged per foot of frontage rather than per square foot of interiors. He intended to establish the area as the most fashionable area in London but sadly it deteriorated into a slum renowned for its gin shops. The area now offers a quirky mix of shops, entertainment and residences. Yesterday we went to see Matilda the musical and the area was being set up with a stage and deckchairs for a free outdoor festival. A fascinating area of London, well worth visiting. @fueast Apparently they do these free festivals quite often in this area. The green grass is fake but it looked very summery. When we came back later the area was packed.
Interesting area. I like all the candid shots of the people. Like here, a lot of them seem to be in there own little worlds talking or playing games on cell phones.
