We had friends staying this weekend and visited this lovely Georgian house in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. It is owned by the National Trust and the guide describes it as 'a secret gem, an oasis hidden away in an urban environment'. It certainly lives up to its description. Built in 1722, it was owned by the Peckovers, a Quaker banking family. The garden tour was excellent and the house itself was full of elegant and interesting objects. There was even a 100 year old Bechstein piano which I was able to play! National Trust properties these days are much more hands on. We've been living in this area for 28 years - I can't understand why it's taken us so long to find this unique place. SOOC
A beautiful place Judith....that is a wonderful facade, looks a mixture of stone & brick. Oh heaven for you to play that old piano...Jack would be in his element !
We've never been either and in fact only went to Wisbech last year to watch a hockey game (even though Adam has school mates who commute from there to Cambridge). I must say it is a fascinating town centre - must make the effort to go to the house.
Love the light in this and how you've used the trees as a frame. When I was a student in the early sixties I came to Wisbech over from Northern Ireland every summer to work in the Smedley's canning factory. I never heard of this. It looks worth the drive up from Essex!
