Bowes Museum

We've been having a few days away in Durham and visited this grand house and museum in Barnard Castle. Purpose built as an art gallery by John Bowes and his wife Josephine Chevalier and opened in 1892, it has a connection to the famous Bowes-Lyon family. It houses a vast collection of art, textiles, silver, porcelain and furniture.

@happypat Yes there was a good display of clocks but did you see the swan? We missed the display at 2 pm but saw the swan and a video of how it moves

@busylady Yes it's the swan, is that the clock or am I getting muddled up. It's a long time since I went.

@happypat Yes i think its the swan youre thinking of. I'll post a picture of it another day. Its quite spectacular - it's an automaton.
