I've been reading in the national papers and in gardening magazines recently about the importance of having a small garden pond to encourage wildlife. I decided to use this old washing up bowl to make a mini-pond. With a brick and a stone in the water and a climbing out board, a few half price plants from the garden centre and and I was all set to go. Within a few days a frog had taken up residence! I wasn't able to catch him in the photo but we see him quite often and have even heard him 'ribbit, ribbit'.
What a great idea Judith - I have a garden pond , with only a few goldfish now ( the heron decided to come for breakfast , argh !! ) Although the pond is in need of cleaning - I must be doing something right as the goldfish breed there , I have not seen the frog lately but I know we have a couple of newts besides all the water insects , and of course the garden birds often land on the lily pads for a drink and bathe - I love garden pond !
@beryl I hope we will also attract some insects Beryl. Er only have a small garden, so the size is perfect. When we start babysitting the boys again I know they will love looking for bugs and wildlife.
