The Brunner Mine

We went to visit the Brunner Mine on the way out this morning. It was unmanned so the story was told with information boards. It told the story of the miners who came, many from England and Scotland to work the large coal seam. The tragic tale of the disaster in 1876 told of 57 men and boys working underground that day being lost due to an explosion. Much of the site was in ruins but some had been rebuilt and was very well presented.
how very sad to read about this disaster, it looks so pretty a spot
