@salza @robz thank you. I wonder why mine is less sharp than Sally's and I think that either she has a better camera (but in the past I took very sharp pics of the moon) or the excess of light where I took my picture from decreased the shining of the moon. I had previously tried a shutter speed of 1/250 with an f/7.5 but it came out very dark. Suggestions?

@caterina Hi Caterina - I'd love to be able to offer a suggestion but I'm afraid it's out of my experience - my camera is pretty basic. Hopefully someone else will be able to help. Cheers

@caterina I don't always get clear pictures of the moon either. I know many people always use a tripod although I seldom use one when capturing the moon. I use manual mode and usually set my ISO on 200 and my aperture on f/6.3 or f/7.1 and a shutter speed of 1/250 or 1/320. I import the picture into Lightroom and adjust some sliders if needs be and crop.

A super capture

@salza thank you for your explanations I agree that a tripod should be necessary with such rapid shutter speed

I've never really managed a good moon shot, so I hesitate to advise. I would have thought a tripod is a good insurance policy against hand-induced blur. Sometimes the pollution in the atmosphere can make them fuzzy; my instinct would be a not-too-wide aperture (say around f/6.3 to even as narrow as f/11), and perhaps a longer exposure than you might think. I'm sure I've seen one of the experts on here give a long and detailed explanation of the perfect moon shot - try searching in the Discussions area.
