interesting to see and try to figure out...

It's good to try new things. I would be interested to learn how you achieved this effect and can then offer some thoughts.

@peadar large aperture (f5) and relatively long exposure 1/60 sec. ISO 100 in a sunny day. Practically burnt 😎

@gq thank you for your comment. Criticism?

@caterina Caterina, I'm no high-key expert, but I think the problem here is that you have over-exposed the detail. High-key should be very "light", and I think most have a white background (which can simply be an over-exposed sky), however you have to preserve the detail in the subject. Were your settings manual, or part-auto or full auto? Here you would need to set your aperture and shutter speed to catch the detail in the foreground; in these circumstances it will almost automatically overexpose the sky, giving you your high-key effect. Let me know if I am making sense of the explanation?

@caterina Caterina, thanks for the link, which I got after I had posted my detailed reply. As far as I can see my advice is about right. The explanation in the website article is fairly technical. How I would approach this shot is to get to grips with the "exposure hold" function on the camera (I'm not sure what it is called in Nikon cameras). This allows you to point the camera at an area with the same values as your subject detail (say, the body of the building with no sky in shot) then "hold" that exposure as you reposition the camera to frame the image as above. In these circumstances this will overexpose the sky as described.

The normal, correctly exposed picture is as follows: f8 1/160 -3. I don't want to post it here not to clog the system, but next week I will try to take a pic of the same building as you suggest (starting tomorrow I will be back to Ferrara). Thank you for the involvement!
