An archive shot, this one taken in 2019 at Ruby Beach on the Olympic Peninsula in Western Washington, the darkest spot in the Pacific Northwest. Only the second time I've had a chance to shoot the Milky Way. Way too much light pollution where I live.

Wonderful. It's odd to think that this is all up there and we (those of us living near cities) just can't see it. I'm tempted to make some sort of philosophical comment about how things going on around us, can blind us to the underlying truth, but haven't quite ironed the thought out yet.
@gardencat A night sky devoid of light pollution (and clouds) is an utterly amazing sight. I was reminded of that on my recent visit to the Northwest Territories. According to Carl Sagan there are more stars in the universe than there are grains of sand on all the beaches in the world. Mind boggling but apparently true.
