My back feels a little better today but I know from experience when to rest it and when to work it, and this is definitely still rest it time. Except if the phone rings. Ashley went to the doc this morning and the word is today or tomorrow. She is 6 centimeters dilated and 90% effaced so he tore the membrane. We have been sure it was any day for at least three weeks (that was Ash, not the doc) but, from my working years with an OB/GYN, we are really close.
Ashley came into my life when she was 16 - and she was a typical 16 year old - when my son Michael married her mother, Michele. She was a beautiful girl, a little mouthy to her mother and I thought she drove too fast. I never got to buy her ruffled dresses or dolls. Never got to rock her to sleep.....I missed all that and she arrived full of teenage angst. We got to be proud of her for her high school graduation, excited as she went to college and thrilled with the young lady that she has grown up to be. I knew that I really loved her and that she was mine when she would go to see my Mother in the nursing home between classes.
We were a little worried when she married Joey after college. They were so young! But they are happy! Two years ago she made me a GiGi (Great Grandmother). Aiden is pure joy!
And sometime in the next several hours the phone will ring and his brother Mason will enter the world. Tom says he will break away from work to take me to the hospital (can't drive right now) so that I can be present for the birth of my second great grandson. And I know he will be!
So that is the story of how at 61 I am the Great Grandmother of almost 2. My 41 year old son will be a Grandfather for the second time soon. He is also the Father of my five year old Grandson, Garrett. Then Andy brought the other two little boys into my life - Noah and Owen who are already calling me GiGi.
I have my own herd of little boys. And one beautiful Granddaughter - Ashley O'Neil Hughes.
Wow ... what a wonderful story, Cathy! Our lives are changed daily all of the time. Your story will soon have another new family member! What joy. I very happy for you. What is it with sixteen year olds? I have a granddaughter that age ...whew, she can be so mouthy to her Mom (my daughter!) I'm patiently waiting for her to grow up. :) P.S. LOVE your photo ...goes so well with your comment.
@boogie Thanks. Still waiting. @lorraineb There will be baby photos soon. @karenann They are a pain at that age. The good news is that all of mine who have gone through it have lived to be perfectly wonderful "people." And I also survived. @wannabe There is a bee buried up to whatever it is bee's have spreading pollen all over the world @bleakhounds A big bee's butt! @clmiller Thanks. Will be boring all soon with baby pictures. @mhphoto Thanks Mike. @lwain Thanks Lindy. 4:16pm in Cincy and no phone call. I hope she doesn't have to be induced.
You're still very young to be a great grandmother, Cathy. Interesting story (a bit complicated though). Hope everything goes well and good luck and congratulations to all.
I'm not sure I have your family tree straight but what I did take from this commentary was the unconditional love you feel for the whole brood. Lucky you. Lucky them.
SO glad your back is feeling better and so excited for the arrival of your next great grandchild. Your family tree may be a little unconventional, but it certainly is strong and full of love.
