How to make a doorknob interesting. Maybe it can't be done. This knob is one of only two in the house that are original. My Dad thought he was upgrading over the years and as he would redo a room he would take all the doors off and refinish them. That "upgrade" included new hardware. Only two remain from 1890. This is the doorknob to a closet upstairs that is now a linen closet. I am in love with the old hardware that does remain. You may get hinges tomorrow.
I am sort of stuck here. I have not one, but two corgis on crate rest now. Charlie is coming along nicely with his neck issues. He has about two more weeks to go. Over the weekend Maggie started limping badly. My vet is on vacation so we saw one in the practice that said she thought she had torn her ACL. So, off to the Orthopedic vet again this morning. It is a good thing that he is cute! He sees no evidence of a torn ACL and put her on crate rest for two weeks. That is wonderful news for my girl. But if you are at all familiar with the Queen's favorite breed you will know that they are busy, busy herding dogs. It is going to be a long two more weeks until I get a final diagnosis and freedom from two demanding pups.
oh how interesting! of course it it were in my house, I would have the irresistible urge to put paper to it and do a rubbing of it and glue it in a notebook somewhere ! great texture and graphic!
First this is such a beautiful door knob & a bit of a pity your dear dad upgraded the doors too !! When you look back at stuff you do so called renovating you regret doing away with old stuff & we have all done it!! Hope your Corgi dogs recover quickly!
Beautiful pov ... I love old doorknobs as well hinges. Bring it all on. Gorgeous objects and they look like pieces of art! Hope the dogs will be alright .. and, no, they won't like the "rest" at all. :)
It is a nice shot of the knob...fantastic pattern! I have some old knobs that were in my parents house when they moved in...he took them off when he got new doors too...what is it with them??!!! Mine are lavender glass ones and I think they are great.
We lived in a house that had door knobs like this and now your photo makes me wish I had kept them They really are a very interesting part of a different life! Great shot,Cathy!
I can see why you like this. What a shame you only have the two remaining. I remember everyone going mad in the 60s and 70s, throwing out all the old and replacing with modern, featureless stuff.
The old knobs and hinges have such great character! This one has beautiful detail! My mom did not like antique furniture... just thought it was old, outdated stuff. I rather like some antiques!
