It has been quite a Summer in the mid west. I was really glad to read an article in the paper the other day that verified that it really is the hottest summer in my memory - and I remember a lot of them.
Our water bill is going to soar this next time due to the amount of watering that we have done to keep the flowers happy. Crepe Myrtle are one of my favorites. I have several varieties. This one is not supposed to grow in my zone but it is sort of sheltered between the houses. We bought this in Tennessee one year and brought it home with us. It is a raspberry one that is tree shaped. I also have a small bush type one that is just about this pink. I have a huge purple one that a little sweetie from church gave me one year in a dixie cup. I planted it and it is now well over my head.
After the gorgeous flowers are gone it leaves the little seed ball behind.
Just googled this as I don't think I know it!! and I don't!!! It looks gorgeous, what a fab colour, a bit like the pink of bourganvillia..........lovely focus Cathy
This is beautiful. I have just spent the past two weeks in Nebraska, Iowa and Indiana. It was over 100 degrees almost every day of my visit. I am looking forward to going home to cool, damp and rainy Germany this afternoon.
Beautiful color. We have a lot of crepe myrtles in our area. It seems the reds have been especially vibrant this year. Much more so than usual. I wonder if it is because of the hot weather.
You have a vivid green thumb! I love plants and flowers but do to have any time to do yard work. :0( this is a lovely photo of the blossoms and the pods.
