Baby Bear by cdonohoue

Baby Bear

365 is my first attempt at a journal of any kind - so it is long overdue.

This is what I do the First Friday of every month - and the Third Wednesday. I started this about 6 or 7 years ago. I began by holding quarterly "Baby Showers" at my church. We took all the presents that we got up to the high school to the pregnant teenagers. We used to have a program in our county that was in place to help young mothers stay in school and earn at least a high school degree. That went by the wayside with all of the cuts to funding. As time went by and we collected more and more baby things we began using a room for storage. One idea led to another and we opened to the entire community two days a month. That might not seem like much but in those two hours we give out about 32 brand new outfits, gently used outfits, diapers, toiletries, toys and books. All of the Moms walk away with bags of things. A friend of mine just donated 104 pairs of shoes that she stumbled upon at a guy going out of business. Can you imagine a new pair of shoes for a child that has never had a pair that they were the first to wear?

Baby Bear is run by an all volunteer group of folks that I am proud to call my friends. It is funded by the congregation that can no longer afford to stay in the building that has been home for that last 125 years. I don't know what is going to happen to NPC or to Baby Bear. But I have a feeling that it will all work out and I will be showing you photos of our new home.
I faved your picture for its love and heart. I wish you all the best for your baby project in the uncertain days ahead.

This is such a commendable endeavor and something people should support through generosity and good will. I hope you will find a new home and very soon, Cathy! God bless you and Baby Bear for all that you do for pregnant teens.

@marlboromaam Thanks Maggie. I sure remember how expensive new babies are and you know first had what our economy is doing to us ordinary folks.
@dauber Thank you. I really told the story so that I can get some prayers and positive thoughts to the Universe so that we can find the answers that we need.
@yonnie I have a meeting next week that will give the beginning of some answers. We have applied for a grant to help us also. And for funds to get a Spanish speaking interpreter.

What a fantastic project. I'm sure all those new mums (that's my adopted aussie word form moms!) really appreciate what you do. I hope you find a way to continue on with it.

@calm It is. It heals my heart.
@terryvet92 I pray that we do.
@anazad511 Thanks Ana.
@aurorajane I didn't pick the name. A former minister thought it was funny - now we are stuck with it.
@vickisfotos And I think everyone should find something that they like to do for someone else.
@fannyb Thanks - but the telling of it is for the prayers and good wishes to go forward.
@shannew It keeps me busy.
@sangwann Thanks Dione. I hope the reward is a new home for the project.
@girlie Thank you Robin. It would be such a shame to see it fold.
