(Day 63) - Non-Live Chicken Pot Pie

To help my mom out for dinner, I made several small frozen Pot Pies. Basically put them in the oven for about 48 minutes and then they were done. They were really good, complete with veggies and this time had chicken pieces that were much larger than they normally are. However, this is nothing compared to how Pot Pie were made long ago.

Back in the days of the Roman Empire, these pastries were served at banquets, sometimes with live birds under the crust to surprise and delight guests! Could you imagine sticking your spoon or fork into the crust of a Pot Pie and a live bird flies out!?! 0_0
You had me at Pie !!! One think I do miss about the UK are the pies, my wife is an excellent cook and does make them. But it's not like eating them back home certainly looks good enough to eat thats for sure. Nice focus

@briggsy - Thanks David. One of my friends visited the UK about a year ago and he was raving about the pies. Hope to try them myself one of these days. You can never go wrong with a good pie!

@gigiflower - Thanks Sam! The story quite surprised me when doing research on the origin of Pot Pies.

@bkbinthecity - Thank you bkb! It was very delicious!

@vega - What a nice compliment. Thanks Vega! And you hit it right on the money: these are Marie Calendar's pot pies! You're right, they make a very handy dinner when low on time.

Interesting information about the history of pot pies! I figured this was a Marie Calendar pie. They are the best. I haven't had these since the kids left the nest years ago.. Looks so yummy, and I need to put this on my grocery list for next week for old time sake :-)

Thats the song -" four and twenty blackbirds, baked in a pie......and when the pie was opened the birds began to sing" These pies are beautifully made with the fingering on the crust! I really must do some - I presume Marie Calendar has the recipe?
