(Day 116) - Hot Contents!

Thanks guys for the fun comments you've been leaving on my recent shots. Including this shot, I'm gonna post three more lowkey black and white shots and then move on to some greyscale photos.

Today's goal was to photograph steam. This was tougher than expected. I knew it would show up on a black background, just didn't expect it to not show up at all no matter what I tried. After a bit of research, found out that my liquid needed to be, not just hot, but boiling hot to create much more steam. Next had to get the right lighting to illuminate the steam. My attempted light sources were not bright enough so had to use my external flash in slave mode. The flash would overexposure the shots so had to turn it down a bit. Eventually, after many attempts, I found a combination that worked. Whew...now it's time to relax with a cup of joe. :)
Smokin' hot shot :-)

Great steam capture. You could also fake it like I did here: http://365project.org/bill_fe/365/2014-06-10

Thank you all so much for your awesome remarks! It took some work but happy to know the results were effective. We got this mug when visiting New York for the first time about ten years ago. One of my favorite cities.
