Recently, I haven't seen my buddy CJ taking many photos. Found out why...he's been hooked by a new mobile game called Pokémon Go.
It uses augmented reality (AR) to display Pokémon as if they're actually sitting on the ground in front of you. It uses your phone's GPS to track where you are and you actually have to get up and walk about to collect them.
Of course, I'm reminding CJ (and others) to play responsibly: Be aware of your surroundings, don't go anywhere shady or trespass on property, and don't play and drive!
This thing is big right now! It is close to becoming the biggest mobile game in US history. So if you notice some people – more than usual – wandering around staring at their phones, they're probably catching Pokémon. :)
Hahaha this is awesome!! Of course, you're a longtime Pokémon fan, so you would get it!! I've been toying with the idea because it sounds so fun - but I'm afraid my kids would take my phone over :) This is so cool!
OK I confess to having no clue. I am aware of Pokemon but couldn't tell you one thing about it. Terrific capture though especially if he really isn't there!
@shylaine3304 - Thanks! I here it's quite addicting. You can catch certain Pokemon in certain places so your kids were probably really excited to see what they'll find while on a road trip.
@annika82 - It's funny watching people roaming around as long as they stay safe. I'm super surprised with how popular it has become!
@sarahsthreads - Haha thank you so much Sarah! This was fun to put together. CJ's phone is waaay more powerful than mine too!
@olenadole - Thank you very much Nadiya! Had fun with this one.
@kerosene - Really appreciate it!! Thank you Caroline!! Been a Pokemon fan forever and it's so surprising to see how popular it is right now! Yes, your kids will be hooked.
@grammyn@tracie8266 - Thank you Katy and Tracie! The guy who created Pokemon loved catching bugs as a kid so he created a video game where people can do the same with fictional Pocket Monsters (aka Pokemon). This game in particular thrives on searching and collecting so guess that's why so many are hooked
After I saw this yesterday my husband and I went downtown and there were dozens of people all looking at their iPhones and walking around looking for Pokémon. If it hadn't been for this post, Chris, I wouldn't have had a clue as to what they were doing. Thanks for the edification!
That's too funny- I've heard it's big but I didn't know it was the kind of thing you did while walking about! Now all those comments by my niece of FB make sense! fun shot
@olivetreeann - Haha yep! Getting people out and about even if they are still glued to their phone. Very happy to help you and your niece be on the same page :D
@stephanies - Thanks Stephanie! I heard it recently released in the UK and was wondering how big it would get in other places. Looks like just the same! It releases in Japan tomorrow, where Pokemon originates from, so it'll get even huger.

@cruiser - Yes, even since we were little kids. :) We'll definitely be careful and CJ says thanks!
@granagringa - Sweet reply, Pokemon fans love "catching" puns. Haha. Thank you so much
@triciaodonnell - Thank you very much Tricia!
