Oh! No! by cjwhite

Oh! No!

I didn't realize what the dragonfly had at first. It flew off a honeysuckle vine. I thought it had a flower. My pretty dragonfly ate one of my pretty butterflies! I know the dragonflies have to eat, but it made me a little sad.

The dragonfly gave me a little scare. It flew with the butterfly and landed on my shirt! I wish I had stayed still, so I could see it close up without my camera lens, but my natural instinct was to jump back! :0)

Thank you for your kind comments on yesterday's dragonfly pic!!! :0)

For a view of today's dragonfly that's less gory.

May 17th, 2012
Great capture, guess it's a trade off. Dragonflies have to make a living somehow.
May 17th, 2012
Poor butterfly. Great capture though.

May 17th, 2012
nature is cruel but your images are fab xx
May 17th, 2012
Nature, in general, is not pretty. Unfortunately, I would bet that 99.9% of all animals meet this kind of death.
May 17th, 2012
Wow this is Amazing and an Instant FAV! The focus is perfect!! ..One bug that has got me beat so far..The dragonfly! and you make it look so easy!! :)
May 17th, 2012
OH NO. Is this the same "cute" dragonfly from yesterday?? I just KNEW it wasn't normal for me to be calling a bug "cute!"
May 17th, 2012
@mackpwo I don't know if it's the same one, but it was in the same area. :0)
May 17th, 2012
Your photos are all consistently amazing (even though bugs give me the willies). I belatedly figured out what was "cute" about yesterday's bug. It was the eyes! Just like Puss-n-Boots from Shrek...the cute factor is all an ACT!
May 17th, 2012
Oh how very lovely! :)

Drama in real life.
May 17th, 2012
Horrors! Your dragonflies need to be trained to eat mosquitoes NOT butterflies ;-) Cool shot nonetheless.
May 17th, 2012
i hope you at least scolded him for this.
May 17th, 2012
It is a really great capture though! I know how you feel; poor butterfly!

Fantastic Shot of the dragonfly! Yes, nature has it's moments.

Very cool shot, even if it is a bit macabre. We can all just sing "Circle of Life," and feel better.

May 18th, 2012
Sad, but brilliant! What a fantastic capture! Fav
May 18th, 2012
Just an amazing capture. It does hit home to use how we "like" certain bugs and wildlife, but in the end, they do have to eat! And you liked both of these bugs and someone was going to come out the loser. Sad.
