This is a 1890 house and at that time people had a Maid living with them in the house. At the end of this hallway, about two steps down is a small bedroom with a sink. This room was the Maid's room. Just before the room is a second stairway going directly to the laundry room. This was the stairway for the Maid. There was a door between the hallway and the second stair way. we removed it. That door was isolating the Maid's room from the rest of the second floor.
We modified the Maid's room to make an office for my husband.
