A trip over to Kilburn today was very interesting. Mick and I went to the Robert Thompson Museum and workshops. He is known as the Mouseman because every piece of furniture his workshops turned out had a mouse carved in it. He specialised in hand making oak furniture in 17th century style. He was born in 1876 and lived and worked in Kilburn till his death in 1955. He left a legacy of marvellous oak furniture that is greatly prized in today's antique circles. His two great grandsons run the family business which still makes everything by hand. The furniture is beautiful but way out of the reach of our pockets. A simple wooden napkin ring with a mouse carved into it was £37 for one !
A big thank you for all the comments and favs, all are much appreciated.
Lovely collage with so much detail. I knew about the Mouseman through the various 'Antiques' programmes on TV, but it's great to learn a bit more about the man himself. I'd love to own a 'mouse'.
We went there a year ago. It is interesting seeing all the new generation stuff too. I am lucky to have inherited one of his mouse stools. The seat is much nicer than the new ones - perhaps well worn.
