crossing the Channel by cruiser

crossing the Channel

Our ferry took 1.1/2 hours to cross from Calais to Dover. There are many ferries making many trips per day. Fortunately we had no delays in loading.
Lovely pov and colours.

An unusual shot of the ferries crossing the Chanel.....I did it once many moons ago. Back in the UK for your last week! Enjoy family time.

@happypat thanks Pat. We leave for home on Wednesday so only one more day together. We will then start looking forward to them visiting Australia in January next year although only for a couple of weeks.

Great shot of the beach and boats.
The poppies ( and all of the flowers I`ve captured) are farmed to harvest the seeds.

@cruiser Oh dear I thought you had another week! Oh well January will soon come! Your visiting arrangements sound much like ours! Will feel for your UK family on Thursday! We have until the 14 July!

Great photo of the ferries - the people on the beach give some perspective as to the size of the large boats.

Lovely shot, the car ferries are huge aren't they. We travelled on one from Ostend to Dover many years ago and I was amazed at the speed they can load everyone and their cars.

It would be fun crossing the channel in a car ferry. Nice photo. Looks like you're quite the traveler and already planning a trip to Australia. I see you are homeward bound tomorrow. Have a pleasant return trip.

@cimes1 I really enjoyed the ferry crossing Carole. It was lovely weather. My husband and I have been visiting our son, his wife and our nearly 2 year old grandson in London. we live in South Australia and sadly dont get to see them very often. They moved to England 15 years ago and I dont think they will come back in the near future :( We hope they will visit us next January. We also went to France and Belgium to visit the War graves of our relatives from both world wars, which was very moving. We go home tomorrow (wednesday) and I a trying not to think of the goodbyes

@dide @seattlite @pyrrhula @suklassen @onewing We had lovely weather for our ferry trips both ways. There had been a strike at Calais a couple of days before and tremendous holdups of hundreds of trucks which were still slowly being loaded when we left

@happypat I am not looking forward to tomorrows goodbyes. I know the family are happy in the UK but I really miss being able to celebrate the everyday happenings in life with them. Thank goodness for skype. My grandparents together with my mother, migrated to Australia in 1920 and all they had were long letters which took 6 weeks to be delivered!

@lyndemc thanks Denise. Not looking forward to the goodbyes or the long journey home but I know our dog will be happy to see us again :)
