in memory of Kitty Whyte

Kitty Whyte was an accomplished swimmer who was awarded the Grand Diploma of the Royal Life Saving society in 1919 when she saved a woman from drowning. She spent much time teaching the children from the local area water safety and to swim. At the conclusion of one of her classes in 1926 she dived from the jetty and was fatally attacked by a shark.
What a tragic end to a kind person. A beautiful memorial though

That sounds like a great way to live your life and a horrible way for it to end. The sculpture however looks like a fantastic tribute to the contribution she made to the community.

thankyou everyone for your lovely comments. It certainly was a sad ending to Kitty's life but she is well remembered for her work and I think it is such a happy sculpture with her standing in the waves with two children.
