I just get such a kick out of their names! To my ear it sounds like a word that might mean "foolish" or "silly" but what sweet-faced birds they are!

Super shot, they are so cheeky aren't they.

Love these birds they are so cool - I often think they are a bit overlooked when one considers the parrot series. My sister found one all bedraggled in her garden after torrential rains - sadly despite them caring for it, it didn't make it :(

@seattlite thanks Gloria

@Weezilou you're right Louise there is an Aussie slang use of the word as in "you flamin' galah" meaning yiou silly fool.

@onewing I think he was really having a go at me Babs

@jerome thans Jerome

@thistle sure was Joyce

@koalagardens thanks for the fav.

@cottiac that's a sad story Cottia. I love their colours and they seem to work in big gangs on our oval digging for bugs. Must aerate the soil beautifully

@cruiser Yes it was sniff! I'll bet! They do the same job our woodpeckers do!
November 16th, 2016
@cottiac I was so so excited the first (and only) time I heard then saw a woodpecker when I was in the UK a few years ago. The only one I had seen before that was Woody Woodpecker :)

@cruiser Ha ha! They aren't easy for even many of us to see... we are fortunate to get one in our garden every now and again. Reminds me of the last visitor I had from QLD who badly wanted to see a hedgehog...well perhaps if you go rooting around in the bushes late at night but not an everyday occurrence!
November 16th, 2016
@cottiac at least is you visit here you can see kangaroos and koalas here if not in the wild then in a sanctuary but the animals I want to see in the UK are hedghogs, badgers and moles. I think its all the storybooks I had as a child. I was mortified to hear that moles are a pest and people set out traps for them
November 16th, 2016
@cruiser You can see those here if you know where to go - just the day she asked to see the hedgehog I was asked to go collect one that had been rescued as I am a volunteer with a charity. But we didn't have time for me to do that. Otherwise I would have given her a back door trip to the rescue place I work for. It wouldn't have been in the wild but still could have seen them.

Yes, sad to say that we set a trap for a mole in our garden - they do create a terrible mess...

@cottiac if we are having these extended conversations I think I had better follow you :)
November 16th, 2016
