found these lovely berries on my Asparagus Fern and on looking up information I have found out that this is a female plant. Can anyone tell me if this is the Asparagus you can eat? I have had it for years but never thought it had anything to do with edible Asparagus.
Chris this is lovely.. beautiful succulent looking berries.. so fresh..
The plant is considered poisonous and the general advice is it should be kept away from pets and children.. :-)
Great photo - I'm sorry you had such bad news about them. Unfortunately they are a terrible weed-birds love these berries and spread them around. Sad really. :)

thankyou all for your information and comments. This fern has been in my garden for years and all I do is cut off the dead fronds. I see that it originates from South Africa which has a similar climate to Adelaide and it seems to tolerate our cold wet winters and hot dry summers. I trim it back from time to time or it would take over the garden bed.
Good capture.
Its Asparagus setaceus, purely an ornamental plant. Asparagus officinalis is the one with edible shoots. Asparagus aethiopicus is the foxtail fern, another ornamental plant.
