My dog was in the yard barking. When I went to retrieve her, I noticed this tiny bird under the hedges. I am soooo thankful my dog did not harm the baby. Momma bird was unhappy with our presence but I took my dog inside and when I checked later, the baby was gone. Looks a little young to fly?
I am going to use tomorrow's word of "spring" since nothing says spring like a baby bird!
Oh my! Fantastic find and capture. Many years ago I had a Saint Benard who cornered a large Boxer Turtle under a lounge chair on our patio. Just figured I'd share.
@adamj My dog is part Great Pyreneese, so kin to the St. Bernard. Maybe their gentleness stops them from harming, even though mine is also part Border Collie and nips at everything. My last dog, a gentle soul, would have eaten the baby!
@hollandcrew You've had so many beautiful bird photos.
@kia Thanks, Kia. I have never seen such a young bird outside the nest.
Pretty cool! If it were me I'd just tell myself it flew back to the nest. All kidding aside I've seen some really young birds fly. They look funny at it, but sometimes they can fly! The wing feathers look pretty well formed.
@drewhuy@chard I should also say that my dog was no farther than a few inches from the bird but didn't harm him/her. I am thankful for that. She certainly destroys her toys!
That is an amazing capture! I hope the mother got the baby to a safe place! I hope you gave your dog a treat for leading you to such an incredible capture! =)

@ejlockett Yes, I was fortunate to get so close and not have the momma bird attack me. Thanks for your comments.
