This morning, there was a Momma Mockingbird trapped on my porch. Sometimes we get butterflies as we leave the screened door open, but never a bird. Well, the dog got passed me and chased her out. However, there was all this commotion in the back yard. Both parents kept flying around, so I knew something was up.
Dog safely indoors, I discovered the baby behind a broom (photo 1). I used the broom, the nudge the baby out the door, as I didn't want to touch him. He was flitting about when he FELL INTO THE POOL! Oh no! I went to get something to retrieve him, but when I turned back around, he was gone. Okay, i figured Momma must have rescued him. (You can see Momma ever vigilent with food handy in photo 2.) Ah, then I checked the skimmer and found the poor little baby clinging to the basket (photo 3).
Isn't life rough sometimes? Easier to go back to the nest. Okay, buddy, time to get you out. Momma was now very close and watching sharply (photo 4). Photo 5 shows the baby a bit worse for the wear but doing fine. He has since flown off (probably to take a nap!). Oh, it is so hard to learn to fly.
What a wonderful collage. My wife is going to love this story. I love the placement and orientation of all of your shots... it's touching, evocative, and fun.
@drewhuy I hope so. The next day, my husband found him in the pool and put him in a safe place. We had to leave and when we returned he was gone. I hope all is well. If he was still here that day, I would have taken him to the wildlife rehab center.
