Last year, our City had its first 5K in remembrance of 9/11. Since I had foot surgery in January, I have not been running or training to run this event again. It was a last minute decision to see if I could do it. I am absolutely not a runner! But, I find these runs can push me out of my comfort zone. Today was very muggy, but I finished. The firefighters ran the whole thing in their gear! Wow! It's nice to see whole families out there enjoying something such as this.
One of the things that inspired me to go for it now was the book "Greater" by Steven Furtick. A must read!
@squamloon I actually did it to inspire me to do more. I have always hated running until last year, when my trainer forced me to run a 5k. I nearly broke down in tears and wanted to quit not far from the finish line. Not quitting was the best thing I ever did. But, this year, my foot has dogged me for a lot of reasons and it gives me an out for things that are harder than I want them to be. I had no one to run with me yesterday and it was my own battle of the will. At least those negative voices in the head took the day off! :-)
Well done, Danette. I admire that you pushed yourself beyond your comfort zone. Oh, and thanks too for the book suggestion. I'm always looking for new books to read!
Well done, I saw the flags at half mast, and again this week, my pic you have commented on does not show the flag lowered, but the one for 9/11 does, again well done! Richard
