Peru Policia - 2nd Place RPS Photo Review - Print Category

This week, the Roswell Photographic Society (where I serve on the board as the web administrator) had its first in-person photo review meeting since the beginning of the pandemic.

I submitted a photograph for the digital category and one for the print category. Our club has a professional photographer come in to review the photos one by one, and then they select photographs for awards. My digital photograph was one from a shot I took at night in New Orleans when fog was all over the night city streets and the "cemetery" cable car was running. The judge loved it but didn't award it a prize, but then in the print category, he liked my shot and gave me 2nd place. Photo reviews are highly subjective, and while I do love this shot, my New Orleans shot was much more compelling! Ah, such is the way. Chuffed to get 2nd prize for this one anyway!

My time serving on the board of this club may be coming to an end. While I love the work I do on it (and I've gained skills designing and maintaining a WordPress site), I do not enjoy the negative tactics of one board member who is currently treating me with some obvious hostility. I've watched her work for a year now, and while I have great admiration for her as a fellow artist, I just don't like her capricious ways. Hot, then cold, then manipulative. It's so sad I might leave my role on the board, but I'm going to give one more board meeting a try to see if her behavior is addressed.

I'm going to hopefully return to my Peru photos and the New Orleans photos as part of this project this year. The new LR and PS have great potential for reapproaching the editing process!

Congratulations on the recognition you so rightfully deserve with this magnificent photo

Congrats on your award. I agree there is much subjectivity. Iā€™m sorry about the board member. I find that some great people become otherwise in a board position.

Love those expressions. Why is there always someone like miss capricious?

Wow. I'd have given this a first! It's fabulous. I hope you get some resolution to your issue at your next board meeting.

This is an amazing photo! I really love it. When were you in Peru?

@mariaostrowski 2018! This was outside Museo Pisco. Loved Lima especially (I hired a photographer guide for the day with my mom)--went to the market, the municipal buildings, the catacombs, on public transit, and visited the Cerillos fishermen mending their nets near Lima. Some other spots too, but Lima is probably one of the most fascinating cities I have ever visited (and I'm glad I stayed longer than most people do). Loved Cusco/MP too. Machu P. was unbelievable.
