I always look forward to this plant blooming in my backyard--the Mimosa Tree. I went to make sure I was correct in calling it that--like birds, I'm learning the names of the plants I've always seen but never really knew what to call them or just called them a name I heard someone else use. In my search, I came across articles on the Mimosa. It turns out it's on the Top Ten list of Exotic Pest Plants in GA.
Why you might wonder? It is very aggressive and invades native ecosystems--much like Kudzu or honeysuckle or Bamboo. That might explain why our backyard has no grass but tons of Mimosa sprouts coming out.
I've always wondered what it's like to harbor a villain or someone who is on the "Most Wanted" list. Who knew it would be my gorgeous Mimosa with the pretty fans spreading seeds everywhere and invading the landscape? For now, I have no choice but to "capture" it with a camera. Shhhh, don't tell anyone. ;)
First of all love this shot and FAV! The lighting is aawesome and I love the frilly little flowers. Secondly I am so sad to hear of the top ten list...I do know about Kudzu and that it can get completely out of control...So sad that this is such a pretty top ten offender!
Beautiful photo and gorgeous flowers. I know what you mean about invasive pests - I have a tamarix ramosissima that has long feathery branches with long, bright purple flowers that bloom on the ends. It is spectacularly lovely. I was going to dig it up when I found out it is on the "most wanted" list in the US Southwest but then I realized that I don't live there - so I kept it. Will take some photos when it starts blooming!
