This is my second try at a narrative for this shot, so here's hoping it is NOT deleted as before. Last week, I went to the Botanical Gardens in Atlanta, GA to see the topiary exhibit -- oh, my, yes, locals, please go. But I had taken a shot then called "Showerhead Lily" not knowing what I was photographing--just that the resulting stem looked like an elegant, if I say so myself, showerhead (see: http://365project.org/darylo/365/2013-06-17).
It turns out that another 365er guessed that it was a lotus, edible too. Ahhhhh, yess, that would make sense because I was in the edible garden section! So I returned this week, with so much better light. This photograph was fun to take because I experimented with aperture--the wider the more fuzzy, but I wanted some idea of the pond liliness, so you can see that with the higher aperture (smaller opening), I captured a "sense" of the leaves without compromising the central focus of the bloom. A real success for me. Loved seeing all the shots, though, as I moved up the aperture levels!
Also at the botanical gardens, I revisited a tree I wanted to know the name of -- the "Button Tree"--it's where I captured a photo called "Bee Ball" (see: http://365project.org/darylo/365/2013-06-16) --turns out the "balls" are the things that help make buttons--real buttons. I love Botanical Gardens--so much expertise in one area and everyone available for my 1,001 stupid questions. Thank goodness for people like me, right? Someone has to have an answer to what may come out of my mouth. Today was just stunning. Check out my other albums for some samples of the day...did I mention I went with a REAL photographer, a new friend, and she taught me how to do a slow shutter release for water...watch OUT. I may just start a water series...until then, know that my day was most excellent!
@toveh Thank you Tove! The light was just spectacular (that was part of what I was writing about the lotus--at least on fascinating thing! ). Thanks for visiting! I'm off to make dinner and just caught your comment! I love your latest shots! :)
@twistergirl I cannot STAND it when I've crafted a thorough narrative to have it jinxed by the fact that I uploaded too many photos and the ones I "didn't pick" ended up going through over the ones I selected. Ugh, just too much. I don't ever feel like "recreating" the moment, so it's over, but dagnabit, it was gooooood. Well, probably average, but I'm selling my wares. So good to see you on here. Missing ya! :) Meat throwdown soon? ;)
@darylo Oh, I thought you meant you gave up on your narrative because you weren't feeling it. Yes, it sure sucks to lose all that work. I'm sure it was stellar.
I'm on vacation next week, so there is very likely some charred meat in my future!
@ness50 Thanks very much for the fav. I loved this shot--in my "would be" narrative I wrote about how the lotus is edible and that I'd taken another shot of it a week before (the "Showerhead Lily")....ah, such loveliness in a flower--and it's edible too! Amazing beauty in nature.
@vskolnik@sailingmusic@taffy Thanks very much for the lovely comments and favs! I really loved this bloom--only one was left. It will turn into a silly looking showerhead after the petals fall.

Congrats on the PP!!!
