Desire: "Desire is a sense of longing for a person or object or hoping for an outcome." Wikipedia
Tonight, I took my daughter to the salon where a former high school student of mine is a colorist -- she did a procedure called "ombre" on Aidan's hair. We were surrounded by these posters of fashionable women and men in all kinds of poses-- the stylists (it was "model night" for training) all looked exotic and energetic. Each one had a cut or color to achieve by night's end with instructors coming around to critique. So, I played with the idea of desire (and hey, I'm in the photo too). I took photos of myself in the mirrors while my daughter had foil after foil of hair stuff done. It was magical--everyone there had a desire. My selfie shows my inner desire to look like the posters even though I know I am Daryl, just Daryl. Hey, I'm ok with that. I just thought this shot projected it well. Thanks 5+2 for the ideas. I have officially made a selfie, on topic, and on time. How boring of me! :)
You rocked this shot, Daryl! I absolutely love your composition. You included all the right elements to convey your story. I understood it even before reading your post. Very inspired shot! FAV
@pflaume Wow, thanks Lisa. It was fun to explore the mirrors and come up with ideas. I was hoping it worked without the explanation (so thanks for that confidence booster); worth the looks I got playing with the mirrors in the salon. :)
Oh, you could never be "just Daryl"! But I think you did a great job of conveying the desire to look like the models (but you realize they are just 2 dimensional and that isn't nearly enough dimension for Daryl!).
Wow Daryl! So good to see you! I think our daughters are getting hair styled... and we are looking in the mirrors-ourselves.... ( I went with my daughter today , and a similar experience):)))
fav! My niece had the LONGEST dark chestnut hair a while back (she's 17 going on 18 soon) and she did the hombre thing. She wore it like that for a while, and then cut most of that part off, and started over. She likes to experiment with new looks. She has one of those tiny diamond "ear studs' in the side of her nostril. If my mom had lived to see that, we'd have never heard the end of it!
