Heating Up

I am literally drowning in the mess I've made with the decision to move my office into my daughter's hot pink bedroom so she can have a larger bedroom. She IS moving into middle school after all--she will need space!

I think I'm going to turn myself in to "Hoarders Anonymous" or something--good LORD, I have crap to the gills!

And then there's not crap, but really it's crap, just cute things like my daughters' first letters to Santa and their pre-school projects--all jammed in the closet in the box marked with their names and where I've been lifting the lid and just sticking things in--I look at them now and go "em, what was I thinking? What's so special about this?" I'm probably going to hell for that non-motherly sentiment, and I'm probably going to hell for never scrapbooking these things and making them beautiful and special and wonderful. I'm just not that kind of mom. So I'm going to hell. If you've made it this far in my narrative, you know I'm just doing my drama queen bit. HOTDOG! ;0

Anywhooooo, I came downstairs to eat my salad for lunch with the girls (as they whined, "are you dooooooonnnnnnneeee yet?"), and I saw outside a new MALE ruby red throat. And he's much more skittish than the females. And boy does he groom and groom and groom. He's probably hot stuff in the back yard! I never got him close up. In fact, this is a pretty crap photo, but I love the bokeh and how it looks like flames fanning his hot self...and it reminds me of how much I'm going to hell for all the bad stuff I've thought today.

I have not stopped laughing at your narrative! I do hope I get to Atlanta some day to do a photo walk with you!!! This is an amazing shot -- it looks like the fire is about to encompass this poor unsuspecting fellow.

Best narrative!!

U always make me laugh---- Great find!! btw,I wanna see that PInk room:)

@taffy :). I truly am drowning in the office. I have made so many decisions to "chuck it" today and I'm sure that I'll feel better soon, but I cannot believe the stuff I have. I just recycled a million handouts I created as a high school teacher -- I had millions of handouts because when I started teaching, the county gave me ONE REAM OF PAPER PER MONTH to cover all my copying needs. Didn't matter that I had 35 students in each of my 6 classes each day. So I made master copies and saved them...apparently FOREVER. No, I haven't been in the high school classroom now in years. And, yes, you MUST come to Atlanta with @jyakota and we'll have the best time doing a photo walk, eating at some fantastic restaurant (or I'll cook for you both) and we'll be so happy laughing and laughing and laughing. But for now, I'm going back into my Inferno. Blah! Thanks for visiting and commenting. Means the world to me.

@jodimuli It's so pink it glows. I kid you not. Here's a peek: http://365project.org/darylo/365/2013-04-16 But I'll give you more when I get it all moved. Think Pepto on Steroids.

@darylo You are a clear warning bell for me -- next year is my last year, then half-time a year and I'm done. I'm now thinking I should start NOW in cleaning out my offices (yes, two) at the university and mine at home. There are tons of books and papers I'll never ever need! Eek!!!
August 5th, 2013
Youare too funny Daryl...I needed a good laugh! I checked out the pink room...it is pretty pink...I am happy you get to clean out all the crap...that feels pretty good...BTW awesome black and white and focus! :) Thanks for the haha!

Love your drama. I have been cleaning out my office for the past 4 months--but I work at home! I have been scanning and scanning and scanning. I have one box for each of my boys and one shelf total in the closet of stuff I didn't scrapbook. But, hey, they are boys and so I won't go to hell! I am glad they went to school before you had to save every scrap. I could be a hoarder, too! Just save the important stuff!
August 6th, 2013
Excellent capture. :) And, with 10 kids and the exact same non scrapping, box hoarding of their special crap habit, at least I know I'll be in good company when I get to hell. ;)

@danette I work at home too--and I'm only doing this because it makes sense and once school starts (for my kids and for me -- I teach online), I won't have the will to do it. That's when the soccer practices, the new school things, and all kinds of things get in the way! I keeping ONE Box with the hopes that I do something with it some day, but that's IT! So glad most of everything is now digital. I really can't believe some of the things I kept. That skeleton made of q-tips just HAD to GO! :)

@irishmamacita10 Cheers! :)

I always read your narratives... they are too delightful to miss. You are my kind of mom.... we can hang out in hell together! Good luck digging out from under your mountain. Just thing how much lighter you will feel when you are free of the unnecessary stuff. Love this shot and how it captures your mood!

You're killing me!! Love the narrative, love the photo. I AM the scrapbooking mom and still have boxes of all my boys stuff!! I started scanning last month. Scan, toss, scan, toss ... it'll have to do!
August 6th, 2013
@mariaostrowski You're going to heaven then!! :)
August 6th, 2013
@pflaume Thanks Lisa.:) I was able to throw a ton away. Donating another ton and shredding boxes of stuff. It is pretty overwhelming, though.
August 6th, 2013
bla bla bla bla bla! Hot dog! ;~} love the shot! Clever to use B&W and you are so right about the flames!!
August 6th, 2013
@grammyn hotdog points!! B&W helped bring out some of the bird because it was really too far to capture. Hummers are so tiny.
August 6th, 2013
I like! And I do get some crazy pleasure that I am not the only crazy babbling woman out there!! ;)
August 6th, 2013
Whoa. If it was me, I'd just go fishing. Someplace quiet. Alone.
August 6th, 2013
@rvwalker hahahaha, quiet, alone does not exist here. In a few years, though. Now we're talkin!
August 6th, 2013
Lovely shot and I think that it is very noble of you to donate a bigger bedroom to your daughter.
August 6th, 2013
very beautiful
August 6th, 2013
oh dear, sounds like moving rooms is not too much fun, lovely shot here Daryl
August 6th, 2013
fAv. I love what you have done here. Magical.
August 6th, 2013
Stunning --- very beautiful, magical shot
August 6th, 2013
Haha! I can relate - but on a whole house scale. Our realtor is bringing a photographer in on Thursday to do a "virtual tour", so I'm purging like a fiend! If there's a hell for moms like you, then there will be many of us keeping you company!
August 6th, 2013
@darylo Yay! Hotdog points!! ♥
August 6th, 2013
I feel your pain Daryl!! Like @timandelke, I've been decluttering so that we can convince someone that they want to buy our house. You are so funny.
August 6th, 2013
@timandelke @twistergirl Yourjob is much greater than mine! I moved my father a few years ago and I had a short amount of time to do it in. We eneded up filling TWO industrial sized dumpsters (after donations and recycling) to get the house ready for sale. I'm asking for a dumpster for my birthday next. There is so much I ddon't need.
August 6th, 2013
@darylo but you need a dumpster...
August 6th, 2013
@twistergirl Amen to that!!! I think it's a lovely present!
August 6th, 2013
@darylo @twistergirl funny you should mention a dumpster - Tim wanted to hire a dumpster to save himself a few trips to the dump!
August 6th, 2013
@timandelke IT IS WORTH IT. I'm a witness and can truly testify to the wonders of dumpster rental.
August 6th, 2013
Love the photo and thanks for sharing your story :-) I don't have pink stuff in my house since I have boys but one of them is a hoarder. I think at some point I could have repaved our walk with all the rocks he collected (that I helped carry!)
August 9th, 2013
Gorgeous!
August 9th, 2013
@taffy If you do, Taffy, You guys make sure you call me up! I wanna' go! Daryl and I have met up once...with two other wonderful women from 365. It was fun, but too short! and way too hot! I need a fall walk about!
August 17th, 2013
Hotdog! Are there hotdogs in hell?
August 17th, 2013
@espyetta probably vegan ones...just to make me suffer. ;)
