Dam Silk--ONS6, Long Exposure by darylo

Dam Silk--ONS6, Long Exposure

My first ONS had me going all UrbanEx with the Roswell Mill, so I wanted to retrace my roots and visit the power behind the mill--the dam! This is a side part to the actual dam (to see the dam, go here: http://365project.org/darylo/album3/2013-12-07 )The light was dark, so perfect for 100 ISO, small aperture, and long exposure--just not too long. A sunny day would not work I think. We have had lots of rain lately; the water is this earthen color (more likely Ga. red clay mixed in with water). It was so nice to go out on my own today. I asked my kids to come along, but they opted for hanging out at home. And I was A-OK with that! :)

Come on, one last day for this slew of One Night Stands--You MIGHT get lucky! It's not too late to join in on the great fun of OneNightStand6: http://365project.org/discuss/general/20065/one-night-stand-six
Daryl, this is stunning! Which filter did you end up getting? I'm going to get one over break -- I want to take it to Hawaii when we go. But I'm still figuring out which one to finally commit to getting.

@taffy Ha, filter? I don't have a filter!! Tell me what to add to the xmas list! Hawaii? Oh dear, how I wish I could go places you and Junko @jyokota go!

December 8th, 2013
Wow,wow and wow!the composition is awesome and the water is like silk! What tripod do you have Daryl?Santa needs my list! Lol
December 8th, 2013
美丽的慢门拍摄,至少要用5秒的时间曝光吧Beautiful slow, at least 5 seconds for exposure
December 8th, 2013
@mzzhope Hope, the tripod I have is the one we have had ever since my kids were born (we got it to house the old videocamera for xmases, so I'm sure it's mostly a cruddy thing, but it's a Vivitar VPT-120SE. I would like more height, but I forgot today that it does have an extension that ratches up--that would have come in handy actually! Oh well, next time! I would ask the community about tripods. I'm thinking I'm going to want another one (more flexible and foldable), but this one really works for me in what I am currently doing! Thanks for your lovely comments. This ONS stuff is the bomb!
December 8th, 2013
@darylo I am so very much enjoying this week, too! So cool to do this together! :)I just noticed Wendy started a thread about tripods so I'll check it out.

Again, really terrific water! The dark rocks and greenery really add depth, too!
December 8th, 2013
The water looks like a wedding veil. Very soft & flowing.
December 8th, 2013
This came out great, Daryl!!
December 8th, 2013
Beautiful position to get a couple of changes of direction. Perfect exposure on the water.
December 8th, 2013
Super composition. Love how the water changes angles.
December 8th, 2013
Fantastic shot. I really like the composition and of course the long exposure.
December 8th, 2013
@mzzhope You know what's funny? I JUST realized that every shot this week for ONS has been with a tripod. Incredible. I have barely used it all year--maybe 5 or so times. Then bam. Just had to share--didn't realize it until I just looked over my week from a glance.
December 8th, 2013
@darylo I can't wait to get one. Night shots, silky water....all the images I admire so much are impossible to do hand held.No one ever accused me of having a steady hand!
December 8th, 2013
This one is very pretty as well, really like the bends the waterstream makes and the effects of it!
December 8th, 2013
Beautiful shot!
December 8th, 2013
Beautiful! I love the narrow stream on the right hand side, and the way the mist/water bounces off the flat rock on the left. A poetic shot, one to be proud of!
December 8th, 2013
Fantastic shot :)) I love it! FAV
December 8th, 2013
Beautiful!!! Hey.. Usually the winner discussion has the actual image to look at :-) I thought of just sticking it in there myself, but thought I'd tell you instead.
December 8th, 2013
Since you appear to be on right now
December 8th, 2013
Guess you're gone again already,LOL. I'll throw it up there :-)
December 8th, 2013
Oh, thanks! YIkes!
December 8th, 2013
No prob!LOL
December 8th, 2013
(I saw that even though you didn't tag me!LOL... you're having quite the Sunday morning!)
December 8th, 2013
@m9f9l I kept telling myself, "Don't forget Sunday, Don't forget Sunday" because the vote on these things is a WEEK LONG. I was so afraid I'd forget, that I just copied and pasted the text. Oh well, not intentional, just distracted by "doing the right thing." :) Thanks for having my back!
December 8th, 2013
Yeah... That's a reason I'm happy I never win anything! ROFL!!! And if that isn't incentive to stay mediocre, I don't know what is!
December 8th, 2013
Fav. Excellent shot and processing.
December 8th, 2013
Love the silk and the way the red clay layers in the drops.

@taffy I would think for Hawaii a polarizer would be good if you don't have one.
December 8th, 2013
well done. the water looks amazing.
December 8th, 2013

Fantastic long exposure! I'm surprised you haven't used a filter here! But great to hear that filters aren't essential for this silky water effect!
