You'd think with Macro March I would not have to say "best viewed large," but hey, "best viewed large."
Pyrus calleryana. In this neck of the woods, the stinkiest tree around! Or, the devil. Ok, we call it the Bradford Pear. And I hate them.
This ends my seven trees/shrubs/bushes to watch for the next three weeks. I sure hope for macro-march this will present lovely columns of my investigation into the bud-to-bloom life of these plants.
FYI, I have used my kit lens plus my macro clip (all listed under my profile) for all shots this month. It's nice to know what I need for the followup visits. Obviously, I will not be trying to get the same angle, etc., but I will try to get the "one week later" view of the same bud if possible! New angle or different lighting, etc. You know me, unpredictable!
Oh, and I need help (in the spirit of soliciting advice) in trying best way to maximize macro shots. I have to crop some of these to really make them macro. I don't have a macro lens really. If you have some advice in processing that would help in clarity or help really make the subject pop, I'm all ears. Still do everything in manual. Thanks and I welcome critique, suggestions, etc. All welcome. And never feel obligated to say anything! :)
@steampowered It really is absolutely disgusting and thankfully storms have been downing the loads of them in my hood. They also cover cars in tons of yellow pollen! Ew.
I love that bit of color in the middle. So cool. I was just reading never to plant Bradford Pear trees. I have little knowledge of them, but I remember thinking they are so pretty!
@maggiemae The blooms are so beautiful at first, but they really stink. They emit tons of pollen and they have a life span of about 10 years before a storm splits them in too. Cheap and awful trees. Cherries are the way to go! :)
@archaeofrog Katie, thanks so much for providing direction for me. I didn't do the bw bookclub, but I did a bw/sc month. And then I'm all in on the macro idea with something I can manage. You continue to inspire me on this site!! :)
We used to have tons of these -- developers like them because they grow fast. But they blow down easily and many of ours are no longer scenting the air.
I really like the way you've set up these past weeks and upcoming ones with a personal theme, and one that has given you the chance for such wonderful macros. This is another that to me shows your strong sense of design -- it's elegantly simple and more than simply a macro of the particular plant.
I love this idea of using the calendar to create a growth chart of seven species - definitely inspired. I've also just followed Paul's @steampowered advice and checked out the Wiki link... And I find myself completely floored by the description of the smell of these blossoms! Following...
