It's hard to let go. My oldest moves on to high school next year. My youngest is finishing her first year of middle school.
This month has been such a whirlwind of tensions--and last night I had another. My wonderful French horn player has played her last band concert. She's retiring. And her band is just so wonderful.
My other daughter retired her viola at mid-year to learn alto sax, and she played her first concert last night--and so well.
I love music programs--our band director touches so many lives with his talent--so many. And I don't know HOW he teaches them all the different instruments. We had three VERY full bands out on the gym floor last night. It's just our band director and some specialists that come in every week. He's the best.
So I will miss the mellow bellow of the horn and I'll see where this saxophone will take us.
I love that my daughter tried to smile for me at the concert (behind that music stand). Had to use manual focus to capture that wonderful face!
@vignouse I have two goals for my children when they reach adulthood:
1) they are autonomous
2) they are self-confident (even if it means their convictions challenge my own).
The transition to this stage is interesting to observe as I have keen remembrances of my own transition and now I must go call my mother and father and apologize. LOL
You've caught her radiant smile! Neither of my daughters play instruments but my niece was once a very talented flute player. Then she graduated from college and laid the flute down. It's a shame to see them drop something they do so well!
