See my other photo for the evening: http://365project.org/darylo/365/2013-09-22. Still working in mono, very happily, and I had a nice glass of pinot grigio as I grilled and watched the sun set. Abstract? I think so!
Okay interesting. I guess I'm going to have to go and read the discussion you've been having about the meaning of abstraction. In my own personal construction of the concept, this is too representational to be called abstract. It's a cool shot of a wine glass and the sunset - - a VERY cool shot, and a fav--but it's a close-up a wine glass nonetheless. Is the consensus that abstraction is subjective? I guess it must be. Hmm.
@squamloon I agree with you and this had been my sticking point for abstract photography. If I can discern the object after close examination, the abtract feel goes away for me. But it's subjective. I get that now. The one photo I took where I understood is my "The Great Escape." I'm still stuck on abstract mundane challenge. It made me stop trying that challenge after the controversy of using the object in an imaginative way. Would love for you to join in in the convo. I'm learning that sometging I would call cropped and a close up or something that can be discovered by examination can also remain abstract.
LOL - here we go again. This is less abstract for me because I immediately recognized the glass, where I didn't recognize the crab claw for what it was in Great Escape. What I see and enjoy here is that I instantly saw this as bubbly wine, with the sunlight bokeh as the bubbles. This is a very cool image.
I'll try to pop on over to the discussion.
