Downtown Boston from the Salem Boat

Today was the most beautiful day we've had in weeks. I had decided to go up to Salem to see an exhibition at the Peabody Essex Museum. I got up early and went down to Long Wharf, where I took the boat to Salem. It was a sparkling morning, and it seemed like an adventure to take the boat to Salem instead of the train. This is the view of downtown Boston as we pulled away.

It's so wonderful, since I retired, to be able to do something like this on a week day. The boat wasn't crowded at all, and I had a splendid time as we journeyed up the coast. On one side I followed the coastline and picked out all the familiar towns; on the other side were the harbor islands, Boston Light way out on Little Brewster Island, and then the open sea. Blue water and fresh air and pure blue sky above--a change of scene is so refreshing.
What a neat view of Boston - never thought about it from this pov. Following

Yes, it's not the old Boston you'd see from the Charles River side. It's the financial district and the waterfront along the harbor that has been so improved in the last twenty years or so.

Of course I love the old Boston very much too.
