Muriwai gannets by dide

Muriwai gannets

We went to visit the gannet colony on the west coast at Muriwai - north-west of Auckland. A lot of the chicks were nearly as big as their parents, but still lacking in their adult plumage. It was a very hot day, with not much wind, so we really got strong whiffs of what a fish feeding colony of gannets smells like! Note the fisherman on the rocks - a very dangerous occupation - there were other fishermen too - all clad in gumboots and heavy clothing - not too sensible if washed in….
wonderful collage…...

I went to the colony near Napier a few years ago. they are massive. What a desperate fisherman. Lovely collage.

@yaorenliu - yes lots of waves washing over the rock, a very dangerous place to be. A while later when the tide had dropped a bit, it was much safer.
