Cicada by dide

Cicada

This morning, well before daylight, the cicada began singing in earnest. At Awhitu, where we were staying, they were so noisy! They are such interesting insects and live underground as nymphs for many years. Eventually the nymphs crawl up a tree and emerge, leaving their shell behind. It seems the adults only live for a few weeks.
Wonderfully focused macros!!

So cool, Dianne! I think I'd even have to call them beautiful the way you've presented them.

Very noisy. I used to hunt them with an air rifle as a boy -- like trying to hold back the sea with a bucket and spade, of course.
