Rural NZ

Tonight I took dinner out to the maize harvesting crew. They were pretty pleased to have salad, new potatoes, bacon and egg pie - all on real plates! Coffee and an ice-cream completed the meal. I would have liked to stay longer to take more photos, but one of the guys needed to be dropped off to collect a vehicle. The hot, dry weather continues and is good for maize harvest, but not so good for sheep, beef and dairy farmers.
Wow, you really looked after them! I'm sure they appreciated it. Great collage to show all the action.

Great collage. Had to smile at your comment about the weather, so typical of farmers and farming. What's good for one is not for another.

@golftragic yep - never satisfied on that one... although we were pleased for a nice wet spring to give the maize a good start!

@golftragic our rainwater tank is very low and we’re close to having to buy a truckload of water. The stock have bore water but it’s a bit irony for household use.

@dide Yeah, city people really don't understand that it's all about timing for crops to do well. As for the water situation, we're on mains water here, but the reservoirs are getting down round the half-way mark, the farm dams are low or dry and people on tanks alone may well be struggling. My daughter farms about 2 1/2 hours north (and north of the Divide) and they've been buying water for some time. And my son, who farms much further north again in the southwest of NSW had a zero water allocation last year, as did many other rice growers. Swathes of the inland have been in drought for years and are bare. Serious floods in Far North Queensland. And some pollies still scoff at climate change!
