Well, I began sorting through photos this weekend. I did not realize how many photos I actually had. This is only a small portion of what I went through. You know those large Zerox boxes where your office copy paper comes in? Well my first chunk was one fo those boxes full. I have yet another one of those in the closet, a large grocery bag full of photos, and approxiamtely six albums already full that I will also be going through as I gather photos for my album. Needless to say, it is going to take me awhile. As I sorted through them, I threw many away, and many others I sorted into separate piles which I will be giving to family members. The ones I am using for my large family album will need to be scanned into my computer so they can be transferred to Book Smart where I will create my album.
Kassidy did enjoy looking through the photos, and she giggled as she saw photos of herself when she was little. It was cute seeing and hearing her reaction to how she looked as a baby. For Grandpa, it brought back so many memories, you know, a little bitter sweet, especially as I looked through the photos of my Daughter, my Mother and Grandparents. Oh how time changes things.
I also used some of my time to work on my Dementia In-Service that I am developing. I need to have that finished and ready to go by September. All in all it was a busy weekend, but productive. Hope you enjoyed your weekend as well. Have a wonderful Monday.
Wow! You are one busy person. each of your projects sounds time worthy, but you will be so happy when they are done. This is a great visual of the organization behind your project! WOW!
As I've been sorting and scanning, I'm still finding it hard to toss the old photos that really serve no purpose - sadly out of focus, places we visited but can't remember what it was, or just not very good looking pictures of family members who would prefer the photos never surface. :) I'm doing it - but it's hard.
Enjoy your project - especially in the beginning. The scanning process get tedious after a while. I can't wait to keep up with your progress.
@nanascraps Barbara, I had that same feeling as I tossed them into the garbage bag, but I was strong, and after the first couple of tosses, it became a bit easier.
always takes me back looking through old photos and journals...how we collect stuff! but best of all is the feelings they can stir up, like losing yourself in moments past.
@gavincci Jaydee, that puppy photo is of our little Schnauzer Sheena who we had to put down last year. That photo was one of the last ones I took of her as she had grown too weak to walk around.
Good luck on your project looks like quite the undertaking and I know someday I will be doing the same. I love it when my girls see pictures of themselves much younger and chat me up about it. They grow up so fast!
Wow, what a collection of photos. I too have spent this weekend cataloging my digital images and I am slowly getting through it... you know, deleting the blurred ones, removing a few doubles, sorting into categories, naming and IDing bugs, birds and flowers.
Its a public holiday here today so us Australians are enjoying a long weekend!
You have a huge job ahead of you to scan the photos. I have weeded out a lot of mine but the remainder should be scanned as they are just sitting in boxes. Have fun and enjoy it.
Good luck! I am sure it will be amazing! After #365 photo, I am going to create a book of the photos that I used for that year. I use Shutterfly to make albums. What is Book Smart? Is it similar?
Rick, I saw a machine that you slide your photos thru and it scans the photo and uploads it to a program, that you can edit them and put them on a disk.
Wow, Rick! What great photos. You have quite a bit of work ahead of you to do all those projects. It is nice to have your grand-daughter to help. I have a 30 gallon tub with photos that I need to go through, but it will be hard...some are very old family photos from the late 1800's, immediate family photos, and photos from places I've been and my husband has been. It will be hard to throw any of them away, even though I don't know some of the people in the photos. One day I will get started. Good luck on all your projects. :D
You can spend some time when you start sorting photos reminiscing !! Big task sorting all that out but you will feel so organised when it's done ! Good Luck !
Oh my, you are a brave person! I have so many photos that I need to go through and sort into boxes. I started a long time ago but never finished. I wanted to make my daughter a box, my son a box, and my grandkids a box. Hopefully one of these days I can get my computer room cleaned out and be able to finish this.
I took on a similar photo organizing/discarding project when my 1st son got married and they wanted some photos for a collage...up until the kids were about 10, I had everything in albums (that was back in the "old days" when every photo you took, you got prints or double prints of) I worked on it over my entire summer vacation...GOOD LUCK!!!!
The beginning of any project always seems daunting- but it looks like you have a great plan. I'm about half way through putting all my photos in albums. It's harder now that I'm getting back into the photos from the 90's and 80's. The events aren't as fresh in my mind! It is so much better though when you share it with someone, so that's really great that your granddaughter could help. How fun!
Wow, you are an inspiration Rick.....I wouldn't even know where to begin sorting and scanning my photos. I wish I had your organizational and time management skills! :)
What a project! How fun to share it with your granddaughter. Knowing that you are putting together a book is such great motivation to do this. Wishing you much success on your journey of matching your prints with your words. It will be such a rewarding effort. Great shot.
Yes you have your work cut out for you but once started you'll be allright...just think of when its all done, the achievement for you and the enjoyment you'll be bringing to your family. not only will you present them wiith a beautifully arranged picture book but also with your captions, explanations and feelings. your granddaughter will be so proud to show it to her future children and will mention that she helped her granddad putting it all together.
You really have your work cut out for you, although at least it is one of those chores which you only have to do once! We all love looking at old photos
I need to do the same--I literally have boxes and boxes of pictures of the kids growing up plus thousands on my computer I want to do something with--I'm so far behind!! :(
Rick I am continually doing that same thing and yesterday I emptied 2 of those size boxes into a new cabinet, and am itching to get back into putting them into Albums - some came from the Albums that were old and glued or had begun to change colour, now I am using the proper ones not acids and just hope someone in the family will want them when we are gone. It's a lovely journey going through the photos of our life I never tire of looking at us when we were growing.
Enjoy your project - especially in the beginning. The scanning process get tedious after a while. I can't wait to keep up with your progress.
the doggie is soo cute!

Wonderful shot Rick.
Happy sorting! It takes me twice as long - I look at them & reminisce :)
