The center photo was of my drive to work this morning, in the rain. The past two days of rain from tropical storm Lee dumped an amazing 12 - 15 inches of rain on our area, leaving a path of signifcant devastation. I live in the City, and fortunately on the outskirts which is a higher elevation. Many of the intersections in the City were under several feet of water. Yesterday my Wife and I were fortunate to get home. At one point for about an hour or more, there were no roads leaving our campus that were not under several feet of water. When we finally were able to leave for home, we had to turn around seven times in order to find a route where the road was not flooded over. Since we do live at a higher elevation, we were fortunate to have no water damage in our home, but there are so many families that have had major water damage. It was that bad in our neighboring county (10 miles away) that the Hershey Chocolate, and the Reeses Chocolate factory had to close today. This morning on my way to work, I had to find alternate routes in order to get there. On my way home I took the above photos. The stream and flooded meadow pictured is along that one favorite road I love to travel on my way to work. The bridge crosses a small stream, normally abot 15 feet across. This evening the water level subsided significantly, but yesterday the bridge I usually drive over was under water as was the entire field, and roadway. These photos are a mild display of what it was like yesterday. I am thankful we were safe, but prayers go out to all who suffered great personal losses. I don't think anyone really expected this storm to be as bad as it was. They compared it, and said it was all but as bad as Hurricane Agnes back in 1972. For those who are in its path as it moves North and to the West, be prepared for large amounts of rain, especially if it continues as it had. Have a safe night.
Oh my goodness that is so awful... so glad you and your family are safe and without damage to property... my heart goes out to those who have suffered though this storm. The collage was a great idea to get the extent of the damage across to the rest of us...
It's hard when floods come to your corner of the world. Slightly fascinating but... glad you and your family are safe. Hope the cleanup is quick and efficient. And that insurance helps those who need it.
Oh Rick, I'm so glad you and your wife are okay and that your house isn't flooded! You are the first person I looked up after I posted tonight because I was so worried. Those photos are so sad it just breaks my heart for all the people who have lost so much in the past few weeks.
WOW so glad to read you and Josie are safe and your home is OK too. Prayers for anyone who is in 'deep water'
Wish we were able to help clean up the Chocolate Factories. hahahaha
We got alot of rain too. We faired well, as did out state. I know that with the hurricane and not Lee, some people are having bad luck; my heart goes out to them. I'm glad to hear you are both fine. Great capture of the mess.
very interesting, Rick. I live in a town that floods in the spring every year. But we expect it. I have been amazed at the amount of rain you have had. Prayers to your neck of the woods.
Awesome collage, Rick.Glad that you & your family are safe but feel sorry for those who have been badly affected. Looks like as summer is ending nature is unleashing its power.
What's with this weather these days ? we in the UK have had flooding too over the past few days & our little village school had to send the children home in case the river burst its banks ! hope you are OK !!
Rick, these pictures are devastating. I knew the east was getting drenched, but I have been so focused on our fires that I haven't been able to focus on much else. Thanks for sharing and stay safe. Prayers for your area!
We talk about receiving a lot of rain this year but nothing compared with where you are. your pictures show the destruction the tropical storm has caused. glad you made it back home and you and your wife as well as your home are safe...my thoughts and prayers go out to the people who didn't fare as well.
It’s crazy! Texas is desperate for rain and is suffering wildfires and your side of the country is being swamped. Nice collage to show those of us fortunate to be somewhere in the middle what it’s like.
Haven't been out to get photos but the flooding around here has been devastating to many. Your collage says it all and more if you read between the lines The sun did shine here in VA today. I am happy you are safe.
I'm slowly catching up to your pictures Rick. So I'm seeing this way after the fact. Wow- it reminds me of the troubles we have around here with heavy rains. We're up on a mountain, so we don't usually get too much water (we did with Irene though!), but everyone else around us is lower. Lee did have an impact in Monroe County. My friend Debbie, who drove out to Michigan with me, was unable to get home on Thursday due to flooding. So, it was one more day away from home at our house, before the water subsided the next day. Great shots. Glad you are safe!
Such a pity those chocolate factories had to close today. :(
I love Reeces chocolate.
Wish we were able to help clean up the Chocolate Factories. hahahaha
though its a great compilation ... =)
