Old Majestic Tree by digitalrn

Old Majestic Tree

This is a huge tree, not sure what kind it is, but she stands tall and proud at the entrance of one of the picnic areas at a nearby wildlife preserve. Everytime I see her she fascinates me. One of these days a storm is going to bring her down. You can tell she is growing weak, as she's already lost several huge branches.
Very nicely done

Love the pof . . the tree still captures the eye even in the deteriorating stage. Has a beauty all its own. Great photo.

It is a beautiful tree. I get very attached to trees in my neighborhood. They don't even belong to me, but I love them.

Everything has its lifespan but how sad to witness the end of this majestic tree.

Beautiful capture, Rick!

I can't quite see the bark or leaves, so it's hard to say, but it might be some kind of oak? There are many trees like that around here and I always hate it when they fall or get cut down. Beautiful shot.

Beautiful!

great tree and great pictures showing it - Trees lose branches on purpose to protect the whole tree - it's fascinating - Steven Croft in "Jesus' People: What the Church should do next" talks about modelling ourselves on the vine with branches dying away and others springing forth, times of fallow and times of growth.

Nice tree. Sometimes trees come to the end of their lives - sad really.

Great shot.

I hope not! It's a beautiful tree--sometimes you can get braces for them to lend some strength.

I love big trees like this and majestic is the perfect word for it! We don't have alot of huge trees where I live because one good hurricane can really change the landscape. I hope this one survives for many years.

Old trees are so fantastic. I used to be quite the tomboy tree climber when I was a kid. This one appeals to the child in me. Looks like a lot of great places to sit awhile up there.

what a fabulous tree!!

Great tree! I always worry about the big old trees falling on people's houses. I hate to lose the trees...but so many of the trees around here end up in the middle of a house or street and it scares me. Beauty of a photo!

Always sad to see the big majestic Trees succumbing to age.
A bit like humans.

What a lovely tree. Shame to see them declining. Sadly trees in the modern world do not grow fast enough to replace the old big ones. Sad to think my children are growing up in a world where the majestic trees are getting fewer and fewer and the ones that are left are lopped for the sake of "health and safety". The world will not be the same without the majesty of the old trees.
