We woke up to about 5 inches of snow this morning, not quite as bad as they had predicted. Was up early, took the puppies outside, shoveled, cleaned off the car, had a second cup of coffee, grabbed the camera and ventured out to see what the rest of the area looked like. On my way home I run into this guy, well I didn't actually run into him, but I was worried that someone might. When the sidewalks are not cleared, people who depend on these little machines to get around, they do not have much of a choice, though it can be very dangerous for them. I watched, and everyone was respecting his presence.
What an interesting shot. Yes, it must be dangerous for these folks, especially with everyone in their own world & not paying attention to anyone but themselves.
Great capture Rick and a very real reminder of the perils faced by individuals who use this type of transportation. It sure demonstrates the need for prompt snow removal from the sidedwalks.
After 16 inches fell here in the space of 48 hours--I, too, have seen similar scenes. I worry about people that have to use motorized wheel chairs on the road during the best of conditions, but during heavy snow? I really worry then. Since I was riding the bus all week, there wasn't much to do.
The photo is one of those that proves the 1000 words thing.
This picture tells an entire story, Rick, and I appreciate that you are sharing that with all of us. How lucky we are to not be put in this position, and to please be respectful of those who are. I love that you've done this in B&W, too. This season, in cold climates, is sometimes truly black, grey, white and shades of brown. For greens and blues, please keep following me for those. :D
It does look a bit treacherous being on the road like that. I didn't see him at first. Well, what I mean is, I didn't notice his head or body. I thought it was some discarded trolley or something. I hope the motorists pay better attention to what's ahead in the road than I just did.
He needs an orange flag flying from his vehicle. Right now he blends in too easily. I do like the look of your town after the storm in B&W. It has a timeless feel.
Sidewalks have to be cleared of snow..that's the law..yes it would be very dangerous on the road. so why can't they drive on the opposite site so they can at least see the oncoming traffic...might not be quite as dangerous...
It does look as tough he is living dangerously, hope he makes his journey safely. btw thank you for your comment Rick ,it really is a beautiful old church.
Love the b/w! We saw a parapalegic in 2 wheel contraption pushing his way through a slushy parking lot today as we headed home from church. I couldn't believe his strength! I don't think people realize how much harder it is for those who have disadvantages to get around. Great shot.
This is a wonderful winter photo, Rick! I've been meaning to take a downtown shot in a nearby town, but can't quite figure out how to compose it. You've nailed this one! I've never seen anyone ride one of these things in the streets. That seems so, so dangerous.
Great b/w shot! As long as we watch out for each other things are fine. We all use what we can to get out when we have to or when we want to. Great that this person takes advantage of that freedom.
Great capture Rick. Not hard to imagine why he'd opt for using the roads; when the snow was heavy over here last year, there were people walking on the roads rather than the pavement.
excellent!! we have that problem here but it seems to be getting worse with the e-bikes!!! it's terribly scary when you are driving a car n the snow and someone is on the road with on of those things... great street shot!!
I saw a mother with her toddler in a stroller yesterday waging a battle with some uncleared sidewalks. If I didn't have the kids in the car I would have stopped to help. Great photo!
That is so true. I remember being very nervous walking with my sister in the street, I used to joke that we should attach a shovel to the front. I'm glad people were being careful.
The black and white choice seems to make it look colder than ever! As for the gentleman in the scooter - the one's over here have a sort of broom stick that pokes up the back of them with a bright orange or yellow flag so that people can see them from a distance and in that case, a selective colour in processing could've been interesting. Not to take anything away from this pic - I'm finding all the snow pics fascinating! Brr!
Wow! This shot shows so much - very nice.
The man in his scooter, the snow, trees with out leaves, traffic, tyre grooves in the snow, snow on vehicles. Wonderful capture of your world at the moment Rick.
beautiful winter setting! that man is a brave one isnt he! so glad to hear that everyone was respectful to him and gave him his space on the road too :)
