Many of you already knew the answer to yesterday's post. The one sure way my Grandmother taught me was to spin it. If it wobbled it was raw. If it spun evenly it was hard cooked. This one danced like a drunken fool. As I googled the question, there were several interesting answers. They suggested shaking it, dipping it in water, suggesting that a raw egg will create small air bubbles. I did not know that.
@olivetreeann LOL I just eat them - that's why I hard boiled them. If I don't have any leftovers I don't have to worry about which one is cooked or not. :)
I like your egg series here, and I actually did not know the answer to your question. My grandmother used to use a Sharpie marker and write a "B" on the shell of hard boiled eggs, so I suspect she did not know this either. Your bad weather from yesterday hit us today and I was in the same plight for a photo tonight. What can I photograph inside my house?
Now how about a secret..how do you prevent a cracked egg from leaking out in the boiling water? and how to peel an egg without losing half of it on the shell?
@digitalrn right...and we cool the eggs in a bowl of water first for a second and then put them in water with ice cubes and once you get under the skin of the egg it peels real easy. Thanks Rick.
I'm glad you posted other ways to tell, too. I knew the answer, which I'm certain my grandmother must have shared with me also. But I never about putting it in water to see if it bubbles. I think our way is easier. @bruni I never heard about the vinegar in the boiling water. That keeps them from seeping out a crack? We need to get some input here from our science teacher @webfoot, but probably not until he gets back from his vacation.
