For most of us, it requires climbing a few stairs to get closer to the top, and it's not always an easy climb. Today, July 15th was my birthday, 58 years young. Had a quiet day, birthday cards, and a lot of loving wishes, and cards from my Wife and kids. Last evening my Wife and I went to one of our favorite eating places, which we often frequented when Dad was still alive, so the family has gotten to know most of the waitresses. Well my Wife left it slip to the one waitress ( I think on purpose, though she denies it) that it was my Birthday today. I knew what that meant. So after we were finished eating, the group of girls came out and sang their version of Happy Birthday carrying a large chocolate cupcake with peanut butter icing, and a candle which I gave to my Wife to enjoy. Anyway, today I couldn't help but think about how my career as an RN came about, and the years it took me, one step at a time to get where I am today. It was a big challenge back then going to school and working, but it has been a learning, and rewarding journey. Life is good.
Like your idea for the photo young man!! (I have 10 years on you!!) Keep up the good work as a RN,I appreciated them when I was in hosp last week with my first heart attack. Happy Birthday and many more of them!!
@georgews Oh man, sorry to hear about your heart problems. So that's why we didn't see you around for a little while. Did you get everything taken care of? Did they do a cath, and stent? Get you set up on cradiac rehab? Hope the report is good.
Good shot to go with a thoughtful sentiment, Rick! And Happy Birthday, good man! You're a year + 5 weeks ahead of me (57 next month)…
Has RN been a professional-life-long career or did it start after time spent doing/being "something" else?
@rhoing It has been a work in progress. I could write a book about the journey. From a hometown bakery delivery man, to GTE, working on a degree in music, changed to a psychology major (which I did complete) and then applying my life history as I pursued the new career as an RN which occurred in 1996. I started late in life wanting to do soemthing different with my life, and now I think I am happy where I am. Each job was a stepping stone.
How fitting this picture is to the telling of your story....Happy belated Birthday Rick..you're still a youngster..only 58!! I wish you many many more birthdays.
@orangecrush Yes, I most cetainly did. I had no choice. After 32 years, I've learned how to choose my battles, LOL. Just kidding. It was my choice. I gave up a lot of sweets abnd fats over a year ago.

Very nice processing - I enjoyed your words.
My brother Iain had his birthday on the 15th too, he was 70 years young.
