I took a drive around the countryside this afternoon, and as you can see the sky is quite overcast as Sandy approaches. A light rain started late this afternoon, but early morning the heavier rains are supposed to hit. Most schools are already closed through Tuesday as a precaution. In September 2011 Tropical Storm Lee dumped about 13 inches or more of rain in a few days. Sandy is expected to give us about 4 inches, still enough to cause flooding. I attached a clip from the 2011 flood, most of which is only about a mile or so from where I live. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pWxcIqtXcM
This looks familiar! Same skies here. We know we'll lose power and probably get some residual flooding. Hopefully the winds won't be an issue, but in NJ it looks like it will be worse.
The flood last year looks pretty serious. Those folks are crazy to drive through that water. We got hit hard last year with Irene. I'm not home so I hope it's not too bad this year. Good luck, stay dry and warm and don't drive through water. I enjoyed your skies.
This collage really captures it all so well. I think you are going to get hit harder than us. It seems to be winding down around here. Our house is safe, but I haven't been out since early afternoon, so I don't know the extent of the damage around here. The full moon high tide was going to be a danger point for the homes on the shore and our dunes and beaches are taking a beating. Stay safe, Rick.
