Three Mile Island by digitalrn

Three Mile Island

I happened to drive by Three Mile Island the other day, and thought I would capture a shot. Where I was driving, it sits on the other side of the river, not a real good view, but you can clearly see the familiar smoke stacks. For those of you who remember, this was the site of America's worst nuclear disaster. On March 28, 1979 Unit 2 suffered a partial nuclear meltdown, resulting in the release of small amounts of radioactive gasses and radioactive iodine into the environment.
I do remember the news story, but even more the Saturday Night Live skits. How bad is that? :) What can I say, I was a kid!

Those stocks are immediately recognizable. Were you in the area when the meltdown occurred?

@allie912 No, I was about 28 miles away, but still too close.

I remember! Scary time.

Scary stuff! We're not too far from Indian Point, a reactor here, and there's been a lot of lobbying to try to get it shut down, especially as the facility ages.

Great shot and It will always have a negative connotation for me because of the accident!

Boy do I remember that! Our first son had just been born. However, it did improve how these facilities are run and spurred us into exploring other sources of power like solar and wind power. Nice shot.
