What Is It?

Ok, I didn't think it was going to be that tough, but then I really didn't give you a lot to look at, so here I give you three views. This was in my Grandfather's toolbox, and I do remember him using this, and he would carry it in his side pants pocket. My Dad used one as well. I enjoyed seeing all your guesses.

Oh rats! I looked at the pictures backwards and I'm seeing the answer before the question! Some contractors still use them today although the tape measures that stretch out and then snap back into the container do seem to be more popular. I think it's great that this one was your grandfather's. Great keepsake!
