For the past couple of months we have been having some problems with individuals wandering through our yard. We have a gate at both ends, and we come home to find either one or both gates open. No reason to come through our property as there is a clear walkway right next to our hedge. Not sure if it's kids (probably) but we become a little concerned living in the City. Are they checking things out? One never knows. So I posted signs, and I am awaiting the arrival of a outdoor video camera, triggered to record with motion. If it's just kids walking through, no big deal, but if it's someone snooping around. They were warned, and then we'll have to involve the local authorities. We have had some problems over the years with theft, and lately there have been break-ins even when people are home. We'll see.
Grrr! I hear you on this one! We have 5 acres and half of the property is wooded. One year I caught a hunter walking through our property where the cleared and wooded parts meet. I was a bit over the top and he couldn't understand why!! Really?! Let's see, you are walking on private property...where children play...with a rifle...some two to three miles away from any state owned property (which is where he should have been if he wanted to hunt)! I am not against hunting per se. I don't hunt, but I don't have a problem with others doing it as long as it is not in my yard!! Good luck with this! Hope all works out for you and above all be safe!
@luvmynynix Laurie - that sounds horrible. I would be calling the police on that guy - can't stand irresponsible hunters. We have a larger cottage property and have found people walking right through it.
It's very disturbing to find someone is trespassing on your property - just hope your sign will deter whoever it may be !!Can't you put a padlock on the gates as an extra measure ?
@kass I did, but of course he was long gone by the time the police got there. :( He never came back though and we made a major effort to post along all property lines after that. It was right around the time that Dick Cheney had shot an acquaintance while quail hunting...so, when they asked if I wanted them to search the property I told the officer, "I can't even trust the vice president with a gun, nevermind some kook from the city up for his annual deer hunting party...ummmmm, yes...go search!"
That would scare me if I knew someone was lurking around. hopefully the signs will deter them. we have motion detector lights around the house. I'm not saying they will deter someone lets say in the middle of the night, but then who knows. I hope you get this straightened out for your own piece of mind.
I hear you, you better nip it now before there is a problem. It might also help to put a lock on the gate for a few weeks and then when they are used to seeing,
it, then you can put it on and just dummy lock it.. If it continues, invite me out and I will fix up a couple of things that should do the trick. LOL
Hope it's no big deal, Rick. Anyway Kiko and Toby will not scare away trespassers from the photos I've seen of them. I had a break-in years ago and it was so scary although not much was stolen. The trauma continued for weeks, especially on Christine.
I too hope its just "stupid kids" who think it's shorter to go through your yard than along the sidewalk. I've seen kids cutting through behind our house (but not on our property). There are two communities that back up against each other here, and it's an easy way for them to come and see friends. Hopefully your precautions will avoid something worse.
I hope you figure it out. I'm sure if feels really creepy. We had someone vandalized our Christmas decorations in our front yard. I don't understand why people like to do harm to others.
